For-Profit vs Not-For-Profit Nursing Homes

Not every nursing home is the same when it comes to profitability status.  Not-for-profit nursing homes tend to have larger care-giving staff and fewer deficiencies (i.e. violations of mandated quality care measurements) noted in Federal surveys.  And that is why we typically would recommend not-for-profit over for-profit.  But this is just one factor and there are some good for-profit nursing homes and some bad not-for-profit nursing homes.

The Federal Care Compare website will tell you the ownership type, when the owner purchased the facility, and other related information.
